Coaching advice from coaches who are actually on the field

I'm Coach Nick, and I lead the YSC coaching team. I've spent 20+ years in youth baseball — and I'm still coaching today. I own a youth baseball program and coach club, junior high, and high school teams. Before coaching, I played Division II baseball.

I don't do this alone. Our program is coach-led by former Division II athletes — baseball and soccer — who actively coach players from 7U all the way through the college level. That's why you'll see "we" throughout the site: it's a real coaching team, not a content mill.

That's the whole point: everything here comes from current, hands-on field experience, not recycled internet advice. When we publish a practice plan, it's one we've run. When we share a drill, it's one we've watched work — and fail — with real kids. When we talk about what does and doesn't develop young athletes, it's from decades of standing in the dirt with them.

What we cover

Practice plans, drills, fundamentals, athletic development, gear that's actually worth buying, and the parent-communication side of coaching that nobody prepares you for. Most of it is baseball, but the athletic-development philosophy applies across every youth sport — including soccer.

What we believe

Build athletes before specialists. Keep it fun long enough for kids to get good. Push back on the early-specialization, burnout, and travel-ball arms race that's hurting youth sports. Everything we publish is grounded in real coaching experience and current coaching science — and we'd rather tell you the honest version than the popular one.

A note on gear links

Some articles link to gear at theranchsports.com. Those are products we'd recommend anyway — same brands you'd find elsewhere, usually at a 10% discount with no sales tax. If you buy through them, it helps keep this site free. We only link to things we'd put in our own players' bags.
